Hello lovely friends! I'm excited to tell you about a short story collection I'm a part of under my pen name, Kimberley Montpetit. My story is called Perilous Windows of Time and it's about Charlotte Bronte, Time Travel, and a touch of Romance. Based on some of Charlotte's real life.
Each year, Mr. Denton McCray and his eclectic team of volunteers hosts the most anticipated, and the most mysterious, book fest in a cozy, lakeside community near the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Though many accounts have highlighted strange occurrences, readers are drawn to the book fest each year by the hundreds, and authors are thrilled to receive a hand-delivered invitation to participate.
The season is autumn. The day is overcast. There's an electric crackle in the air that foreshadows the arrival of approaching storms. It's Friday evening and I'm just now posting. Busy day buying my new Apple iPad - my first Apple product ever! So, yeah, monumental day - ha, ha. (I celebrated by working on editorial revisions in the afternoon as well as paperwork and a trip to the fax store for a student loan for my son).
Every first weekend of August New Mexico has a tax-free weekend for people to purchase school clothes, school supplies and electronics for students and families - and save a little money. Really helps the retail businesses. Believe me, the stores are BUSY! Best Buy was packed and they had pallets of iPads and all kinds of electronic goodies.
If only it came in *purple* I would be the happiest girl,
but pink is the next best thing!
I've been thinking about making this purchase for awhile and I am excited by all the wonderful things an iPad can do. It will be especially handy for when I'm traveling (which has been increasing the past year or two personally as well as with my life as an author) and next year with two books launching with both Scholastic and Harpercollins, I have a feeling travel is about to go into overdrive. I'm already booked for a Houston Author Teen Event in February, I'm a presenter at SCBWI Niagara Falls in May, a Whitney Award judge for LDStorymakers in May AND Book Expo America the end of May/early June - and that doesn't include any book launch events to be scheduled or school visits. And it doesn't include my 3 week trip to the Middle East (Jordan/Israel) in November.

I've been working on this novel for 7 years and I wasn't sure it would ever become a real book so this is a day of pure joy!
It's been a week since I turned in my new manuscript to my editor and I have no fingernails left. Truly, she is brutal for making me wait! Kidding! It *is* hard though. My critique group loved it, my son loved, it, but the people who count the most: Gorgeous Editor and Super Agent have yet to read it . . . I will suffer in silence.
Meanwhile, my editor and publicist and the Marketing Brains at Scholastic LOVE the finished book trailer! I'm so excited to show it off - but you will all have to wait until about June before I can share. But there will be fabulous giveaway packs when the book trailer is released TO THE WORLD! Meanwhile, eat a donut - it helps the suffering.
Meanwhile!!! I did hear from Gorgeous Editor about the TITLE for my July, 2011 book. She really wanted to get something into the computer to hold my book's spot in the Summer line-up for next year.
For the past year the proposal and WIP has been called THE TRAITEUR'S DAUGHTER. It's a companion book to THE HEALING SPELL. But only one character is the same.
We decided months ago that the word "traiteur" would be off-putting to young readers. And maybe some old ones, too.
I have had the worst time coming up with something I like. I turned it in with the title DAUGHTERS OF THE CIRCLE, but that sounds like women's fiction. I sent the following list with the manuscript. My favorite was the top one, but got nixed. Too "magicky" for Scholastic Book Fairs, I'm afraid.
Gorgeous Editor liked A CIRCLE OF SECRETS - but without the "A". She also liked GHOSTS OF THE CIRCLE. And yes, there are ghosts!!! And a graveyard. And beauty spells. but we decided that the word "ghosts" sounds too young for a tweener book.
So the final title - at least for the moment! - is CIRCLE OF SECRETS!
Whaddayathink? And whaddaythink about my list of *potentials*?
My head is spinning, my house is a disaster area and ready to be quarantined, Christmas is 17 days away and my head is still in early November. My mind is full and blank at the same time (how can that be?!? Weirdly, it's true, and I'll bet every mom/writer combo woman knows exactly what I'm talking about.)
Since I'm not sure my brain will spit out coherent words for a while, here is my last six weeks in pictures . . .
Road Trip to Louisiana with darling hubby! We got away from the kids and the house and mess and the babies (missed them dreadfully though!) and ran around like crazy and had SO MUCH FUN and didn't want to come home. It was like running away and yet a 5 year overdue vaca with my hubby and a research trip rolled into one.
I'm very good at multi-tasking.

Back home and writing my first draft again of THE TRAITEUR'S DAUGHTER (Title to be changed now due to and editorial mini consultation via email. Something I suspected we would do so I am now on the "Great Title Hunt".
I was home for 7 writing days and managed to get from 43,000 words to 67,000 words. And unpack and repack and get ready to go again!
Off to Arizona for a full week of Book Trailer Production with music discussions and timing issues and personally creating more images for a trailer that needs very unusual pictures not found on istock or Getty. We managed to be very sneaky to get some of our shots - and not get caught! Or kicked out of a hospital and Hobby Lobby. . .
Then Turkey Day with both sides of the family and lots of back and forth and visiting and games and eating, eating, eating.
We ate about 17 pies that weekend! Personally, I think I managed two all by myself.
Back home to New Mexico again!
Back to drafting. My goal of Labor Day is long gone. My goal of Halloween, pfft. My goal of Thanksgiving lost in the dust. Why is this book taking SO long to draft? I'm now past my original estimation of 60,000 words. We're in the 70's and nearing 80. I must be really good at blah, blah, blah.
HELP! HELP! HELP!!!
This is where I got to in the dark tunnel of drafting, drafting and wondering if I'll ever be done with this book.
A light! Is it true? Dare I hope? Dare I dream? Am I on the last chapter??? Really???

Word count clocked in at 77,706 words and 286 manuscript pages. I DID IT!
Today I do laundry, figure out my Christmas List, finish reading somebody ELSE'S novel, and start revisions!
