Hello lovely friends! I'm excited to tell you about a short story collection I'm a part of under my pen name, Kimberley Montpetit. My story is called Perilous Windows of Time and it's about Charlotte Bronte, Time Travel, and a touch of Romance. Based on some of Charlotte's real life.
Each year, Mr. Denton McCray and his eclectic team of volunteers hosts the most anticipated, and the most mysterious, book fest in a cozy, lakeside community near the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Though many accounts have highlighted strange occurrences, readers are drawn to the book fest each year by the hundreds, and authors are thrilled to receive a hand-delivered invitation to participate.
The season is autumn. The day is overcast. There's an electric crackle in the air that foreshadows the arrival of approaching storms. Tops of trees sway under the weight of winds that bear more than the threat of rain. The book fest takes place in an old building that once served as a high school. It has been decades since students roamed the halls ... living students, that is.
The Lake Morgan Book Fest opens at 6 PM and runs until midnight. So, grab a cup of hot tea, and dive in!

Isn't it gorgeous! I'm lucky, lucky, lucky that Harpercollins paid for cover shoot with a real model and a real photographer and then the art dept created such stunning covers with beautiful, oriental trim and backgrounds. Here's book 1 and 2 together! (And Book 3 is just as fabulous - golly, I can't wait to share that next year!)
Don't forget to enter the giveaway and spread the word if you'd like! A thousand thank you's!
LUMIERE is the first book in a beautiful and dramatic steampunk trilogy. Jackie is a wonderful writer and critique partner and has worked unbelievably hard over many years on these books. She deserves every good thing and I'm so excited for her! First off, the cover
is simply stunning. I could stare at it all day. The story is
mesmerizing, the world is a unique fantasy, and the characters were
interesting and emotionally involving. I loved Eyelet and her family as
well as all the danger and intrigue over the machine. I eagerly await
the second book in the trilogy!
Super cool graphics are below, plus a fabulous giveaway package and rafflecopter. LUMIERE just launched this morning and the book took off into the stratosphere on Amazon. Go check it all out at the links below!
In the comments, let me know what you think of the cover and the synopsis, etc. I am coveting those steampunk necklaces!
Title: Lumière
Author: Jacqueline Garlick
Pub. Date: August 11, 2015 Publisher: Skyscape Pages: 458
Even in a land of eternal twilight, secrets can’t stay in the dark forever.
Seventeen-year-old
Eyelet Elsworth has only one hope left: finding her late father’s most
prized invention, the Illuminator. It’s been missing since the day of
the mysterious flash—a day that saw the sun wiped out forever over
England.
But living in darkness is nothing new to Eyelet. She’s
hidden her secret affliction all of her life—a life that would be in
danger if superstitious townspeople ever guessed the truth. And after
her mother is accused and executed for a crime that she didn’t commit,
the now-orphaned Eyelet has no choice but to track down the machine that
was created with the sole purpose of being her cure.
Alone and on
the run, she finally discovers the Illuminator—only to see a young man
hauling it off. Determined to follow the thief and recover the machine,
she ventures into the deepest, darkest, most dangerous part of her
twisted world.
Revised edition: This edition of Lumière includes editorial revisions.
I write YA, New Adult, and Women’s Fiction. I love strong heroines, despise whiny sidekicks, and adore a good story about a triumphant underdog. I love to read, write, paint (walls and paper) and plan cool writing events for cool writers (check out niagarawritersretreatandconference (dot) com.) I have a love/hate relationship with chocolate, grammar, and technology. I prefer creating things to cleaning things, and baking to cooking and believe laughter is a one-stop-shop solution to all that ails you. I also firmly believe ELO’s Mr. Blue Sky can improve even the worst day. And if that doesn’t work, there’s always Ellen Degeneres. You will always find a purple wall (or two) in my house (perhaps even a door) and a hidden passageway that leads to a mystery room. (Okay, so you won’t find a hidden passageway but a girl can dream, can’t she?) Oh, and tea. There will always be tea. I love specialty teas…and collecting special teacups from which to drink them. (See collection below.)
In my former life, I was a teacher (both grade school and college – long story, don’t ask) and more recently, I’ve been a graduate of Ellen Hopkin’s Nevada Mentor Program and a student of James Scott Bell, Christopher Vogler and Don Maass. An excerpt from Lumière earned me the 2012 Don Maass Break Out Novel Intensive Scholarship.
Known for my edgy, rule-breaking, Tim Burton-esque style of writing, I’m often affectionately referred to as the Quentin Tarantino of YA among friends in writing circles.
ROMANCING REBECCA has a new cover!! I
love it and I think this cover shows
the humor, fun, and romance much more. The novella is 110 pages and
takes place at the Starry Skies Bed & Breakfast in Snow Valley
Montana where a group of gorgeous firefighters show up with muscles the
size of the Montana hills. :-)
With a curtsy to Jane Austen and quotes from her at the top of every chapter!
Tell me what you think of the new cover! I'd love to hear what you think of the story,
too. Go here to add/review on Goodreads: Romancing Rebecca on Goodreads
I met Sheralyn Pratt at the LDStorymakers writer's conference about 4 years and we instantly hit it off. She has worked in marketing for Cedar Fort publisher and has published several contemporary mysteries. She's smart, fun, and is very savvy about the publishing world, having run many campaigns for lots of authors. Sheralyn and I also took a road trip to Taos for a writer's retreat with several other local writer authors freinds. We spent three days talking and brainstorming and writing - and eating. I'm very excited to share her brand new book today! Coincidentally, I just returned from the (now) annual retreat in Taos this past weekend and read THE KISS THAT LAUNCHED 1,000 GIFS while I was snuggled in my Taos bed while it rained. (I'll post some gorgeous pictures of the New Mexico mountains and blooming cactus tomorrow). I love this cover! I love the title, and I really enjoyed the story. The synopsis says it all. So if you like fun, clean, romantic comedies, grab this for your Kindle now for only $3.99
The Kiss That Launched 1,000 Gifs by Sheralyn Pratt Each weekday from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Grace and Ashton cohost Battle of the Sexes, a radio program arguing the he-said/she-said issues of the day. Their fiery debates often have listeners wondering if there’s more to their relationship than just talk, even though Grace has been dating Phillip, Mr. Tall, Dark, and Perfect, since long before she ever met Ashton Miller.
Yet when news comes that Battle of the Sexes is on the bubble for cancellation, Grace and Ashton need to step up their efforts to engage their audience to keep the show alive. When a charity organization approaches them and proposes that the two of them kiss for a fund raiser, Grace and Ash agree to kiss for a good cause. A kiss is just a kiss, right?
Author Sheralyn Pratt Sheralyn's first job was as a karate instructor, which taught her that practice does not make perfect; practice makes habit--good or bad. Martial arts also taught Sheralyn that a master is simply a person who can effortlessly do all the actions a beginner finds difficult or maybe even impossible. Sheralyn has worked in many fields throughout her life, but her 12 years as a karate instructor have shaped how she does everything, including writing and mentoring. She likes to keep things light and fun, but she's also aware that life is journey and that if you're going to buy a book, your life should be better for it. So, fiction or nonfiction, know that each of Sheralyn's books are designed to take you to a new place. Maybe that book is designed to help you escape for a few hours, or maybe it's a book designed to teach you a new skill. Either way, Sheralyn hopes it's unforgettable...in a good way. ;)

From Christina Dymock, amazing Cookbook Author and my dear friend:
"My newly released cookbook, The Healthy Family Slow Cooker Cookbook,
is chock full of wonderful recipes for your slow cooker. Traditionally,
home chefs think of the slow cooker as a winter appliance, but there
are many wonderful recipes for those summer months too. Try the Island
Pork Salad recipe below. It’s a light meal that includes fruits and
veggies — perfect for a summer night."
Island Pork Salad Serves 6 This recipe has everything: protein, greens, and fruit. If you’d like to add cheese, you’ll also have dairy. Ingredients 1 (2-3 pound) pork roast or 6 thin sliced pork chops ½ teaspoon black pepper 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon chili powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 (?? Ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained 4 cups spinach 2 cups chopped iceberg lettuce 1 orange or yellow pepper, sliced ½ cup raisins 1 avocado, cubed ¾ cup olive oil 3 tablespoons lime juice 1 tablespoon orange juice 2 tablespoon Dijon mustard 1 teaspoon curry powder ¼ teaspoon pepper 1 tablespoon honey Directions Place
the pork in a slow cooker. In a small bowl, mix together the pepper,
cumin, chili powder, and cinnamon. Rub into pork. Cover and cook on low
for 4-6 hours or until the meat is cooked through. Remove the meat from
the slow cooker and set aside to cool while you prepare the salad.
In a
large salad bowl, toss the spinach, lettuce, pepper, raisings, avocado
pieces, and mandarin oranges. Divide the salad between 6 plates. Cut the
pork and divide between the salads.
To
make the dressing, Place the lime juice, orange juice, Dijon mustard,
curry powder, pepper, and olive oil in a container with a tight lid.
Cover and shake well. Pour dressing over salads or serve on the side.
